About The Project

Federal litigation support built to help children get home.

The law requires that children in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) be promptly released to suitable sponsors. For most children in ORR custody today, that is not happening.

The Children’s Due Process Project recruits and trains pro bono attorneys, pairs them with legal service providers and child clients, and supports federal habeas cases challenging unlawful and prolonged ORR detention.

Project members receive model pleadings, case guides, mentorship, practical training, and timely support from practitioners doing this work across the country. Children receive high quality legal representation in federal court to challenge their unlawful detention and win their freedom.
